The sun conure (Aratinga solstitialis), also known as the sun parakeet, is a medium-sized parrot with strikingly vibrant colours, native to northeastern South America. Adult males and females look alike, both featuring black beaks, mostly golden-yellow plumage, orange-tinted underparts and faces, and wings and tails tipped in green and blue.
During a recent trip to Yeppoon in Queensland, I had the pleasure of visiting Cooberrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary.
