The Rose-crowned Fruit Dove is a small, beautifully coloured pigeon found in tropical and subtropical forests of eastern Australia, including north eastern New South Wales.
It is recognised by its soft green body, pale grey head and the delicate pink crown that gives the species its name. Preferring dense rainforest and vine thickets, it feeds quietly on a wide range of native fruits, often remaining well hidden in the canopy.
Shy and elusive, the Rose-crowned Fruit Dove is more often detected by its gentle, booming calls than by sight, making any clear view a memorable experience.
