The Red Wattlebird is Australia’s largest honeyeater and a common, noisy presence across eastern and southern Australia, including much of New South Wales.
It is recognised by its grey brown streaked plumage, bright red wattle on the side of the neck and a yellow patch on the belly. Highly vocal and assertive, the Red Wattlebird feeds mainly on nectar but also takes insects and fruit, often aggressively defending flowering trees from other birds.
Adaptable and bold, it thrives in woodland, heath, gardens and urban areas, making it one of the most familiar honeyeaters in the Australian landscape.
