The Red-collared Lorikeet is a vivid northern Australian parrot, closely related to the Rainbow Lorikeet but distinguished by the bold red-orange collar across the back of the neck. Found mainly across the tropical north, it is often seen in noisy pairs or fast-moving flocks around eucalypt woodland, mangroves, paperbark forests, gardens and flowering trees.
Like other lorikeets, it feeds largely on nectar, pollen, blossoms and soft fruits, using its specialised brush-tipped tongue to gather food from flowers. Bright, restless and highly vocal, the Red-collared Lorikeet brings a flash of colour and energy to the northern landscape, often announcing its presence long before it is seen.
