The Yellow-throated Miner is a robust honeyeater found mainly across eastern and south eastern Australia, including inland parts of New South Wales, where it favours open woodland, mallee and lightly treed farmland.
It is identified by its grey body, black head, bright yellow throat and eye patch, and its confident, upright stance. Highly social and territorial, Yellow-throated Miners live in cooperative groups that actively defend feeding and nesting areas from other birds. Feeding on nectar, insects and fruit, they are bold and conspicuous, often dominating the habitats they occupy.
