Rainbow Lorikeet

The Rainbow Lorikeet is one of the most instantly recognisable birds in New South Wales, known for its electric blue head, bright green wings, orange chest and constant chatter.

Native to eastern Australia, it thrives in coastal and urban areas of NSW, especially around Sydney, where flowering eucalypts, bottlebrush and grevilleas provide a steady supply of nectar and pollen, which make up most of its diet.

Highly social and fearless around people, Rainbow Lorikeets are often seen in noisy flocks darting between trees or boldly visiting balconies and parks, making them a familiar and much loved part of daily life across the state.
