Olive-Backed Oriole

The Olive-backed Oriole is a bold and vocal bird found across northern and eastern Australia, including parts of New South Wales, particularly during the warmer months.

It is easily recognised by its olive green upperparts, bright yellow underparts and striking black head and mask, paired with a strong pinkish bill. Often heard before it is seen, the Olive-backed Oriole is known for its loud, fluting calls from high in the canopy, where it feeds on fruit, insects and nectar.

Confident and conspicuous, it is a distinctive presence in woodland, rainforest edges and well treed urban areas.
