The Norfolk Island Parrot is a rare and distinctive parrot endemic to Norfolk Island, making it one of Australia’s most geographically restricted bird species.
It is recognised by its predominantly green plumage with yellow underparts and subtle red markings on the head and wings, with females generally duller than males. Living mainly in native forest, the Norfolk Island Parrot feeds on seeds, fruits, blossoms and leaf buds, often foraging quietly in the canopy.
Once driven close to extinction by habitat loss and introduced predators, the species has benefited from intensive conservation efforts and remains a powerful symbol of Norfolk Island’s unique natural heritage.
