The Little Wattlebird is a large, grey brown honeyeater found across southern and eastern Australia, including much of New South Wales, where it inhabits woodland, forest edges, heath and suburban gardens.
It is recognised by its streaked plumage, long slightly curved bill and the small yellow wattle on the side of the neck, which is far less obvious than that of the Red Wattlebird. Feeding on nectar, insects and fruit, the Little Wattlebird is highly vocal, producing a wide range of harsh calls, whistles and chatters.
Often dominant around flowering plants, it is a familiar and assertive presence in many coastal and urban environments.
