Crested Pigeon

The Crested Pigeon is a distinctive and increasingly common pigeon found across much of Australia, including New South Wales, where it favours open woodland, farmland and urban fringes.

It is recognised by its tall, thin crest, soft grey plumage with black wing markings and pinkish underparts. When taking off, its wings produce a characteristic whistling sound caused by a modified primary feather, often giving away its presence before it is seen.

Feeding mainly on seeds taken from the ground, the Crested Pigeon is a graceful and elegant bird that has adapted well to human altered landscapes.
