The Australian Ringneck Parrot is a colourful and adaptable parrot found across much of mainland Australia, particularly in inland and semi arid regions, though it is uncommon in New South Wales.
It is recognised by its bright green body, contrasting yellow to green collar around the neck, blue cheeks and a long tail, with colours varying slightly between subspecies. Australian Ringneck Parrots favour open woodland, scrub and farmland, where they feed on seeds, fruits, blossoms and insects.
Often seen in pairs or small groups, they are fast flying, alert birds with loud, distinctive calls that carry across open country.
