Australian King-Parrot

The Australian King-Parrot is a striking and easily recognised parrot found along the east coast of Australia, including much of New South Wales, where it favours forest, woodland and well treed suburban areas.

Males are unmistakable with a bright red head and chest contrasted against deep green wings and back, while females are mostly green with a red belly and blue tinges on the wings. Feeding on seeds, fruits and blossoms, Australian King-Parrots are often seen quietly foraging in the canopy or visiting garden feeders.

Calm and relatively confiding compared with many parrots, they are a much admired and colourful presence wherever suitable habitat remains.
