The Alexandrine Parakeet is a large, elegant parrot with vivid green plumage, a powerful red beak and long tapering tail. Males are especially distinctive, with a bold black and rose-coloured neck ring and deep maroon shoulder patches.
Native to parts of South and South-East Asia, it is an intelligent, social and often noisy bird, feeding on fruit, seeds, flowers and grain. Its size, colour and confident personality make it one of the most recognisable parakeets.
