Australasian Figbird

The Australasian Figbird is a medium sized fruit eating bird found along eastern Australia, including coastal and near coastal New South Wales, where it inhabits rainforest edges, woodland and well treed urban areas.

Males are easily recognised by their black head, bright red facial skin and olive green body, while females are browner with heavy streaking on the underparts.

Feeding mainly on figs and other soft fruits, as well as insects, Australasian Figbirds are often seen in small groups moving noisily through the canopy. Active and vocal, they are a conspicuous presence wherever fruiting trees are abundant.
