Red-rumped Parrots are small, fast flying parrots found across inland and south eastern Australia, including parts of New South Wales, where they favour open woodland, grassland and farmland.
Males are easily recognised by the bright red patch on the lower back that gives the species its name, along with green upperparts and yellow green underparts, while females are duller and lack the red rump.
Feeding mainly on seeds and grasses, Red-rumped Parrots are often seen foraging on the ground in pairs or small flocks. Agile and alert, they are a lively presence in open country and rural landscapes.
