Double-eyed Fig Parrot

The Double-eyed Fig Parrot is Australia’s smallest parrot and a brilliantly coloured rainforest species found along the east coast, including north eastern New South Wales.

It is recognised by its compact size, bright green body, blue crown and the distinctive red and blue facial markings around the eyes that give the species its name.

Closely associated with fig trees, it feeds mainly on figs and other soft fruits, often moving quietly through the canopy in pairs or small groups. Despite its vivid colours, the Double-eyed Fig Parrot can be surprisingly hard to spot, as it blends easily into foliage and tends to remain high in the treetops.
