The Scaly-breasted Lorikeet is a small, fast moving parrot found along eastern Australia, including much of New South Wales, where it inhabits woodland, forest edges and urban areas with flowering trees.
It is named for the distinctive yellow scalloping on its green breast, which gives the bird a scaled appearance, along with a red patch on the face and a blue crown.
Feeding mainly on nectar, pollen and soft fruits, Scaly-breasted Lorikeets are often seen in noisy flocks moving quickly between flowering eucalypts. Agile and energetic, they are a lively and familiar sight wherever suitable food sources are available.
