White-Bellied Sea Eagle

The White-bellied Sea Eagle is a large and powerful raptor found along Australia’s coastline, rivers and large inland waterways, including much of New South Wales. It is instantly recognisable by its bright white head, chest and belly, contrasting with dark grey to black wings and a massive hooked bill.

Often seen soaring high or perched in tall trees near water, it feeds mainly on fish, as well as waterbirds, reptiles and carrion.

Pairs are long lived and territorial, frequently returning to the same large nest year after year, making the White-bellied Sea Eagle one of the most commanding and iconic birds of prey in the Australian landscape.
